Cisco and Nutanix: A 360-degree partnership where 1 + 1 = 3

Cisco enters into strategic partnerships like the one with Nutanix to leverage our strengths in data center infrastructure with the complementary strengths of industry leaders. It is a “1 + 1 = 3” approach that provides our customers with more comprehensive and optimized solutions as their challenges change.

Apps now form the basis for transforming traditional business models into digital-first models, acting as a central interface between companies and their customers, their technology partners, their supply chain and their employees. Gartner also predicts a 75% Growth rate of edge computing until 2025.

In other words, IT (and especially computing) is becoming increasingly hyper-distributed, requiring new and innovative approaches to infrastructure deployment, management and operations to meet the demands of our hybrid, multi-cloud world.

This was both the challenge and the opportunity that Cisco and Nutanix embraced as part of our global strategic partnership we announced last year. In this blog I go a step deeper to provide a progress report and highlight the truly unique aspects of this partnership.

What 360 degree partnership means

What sets the Cisco and Nutanix partnership apart from traditional resale agreements is the depth and breadth of collaboration between our two companies. The partnership encompasses virtually all aspects of our shared business model, from strategy, technology, support/services to go-to-market. I think Jeremy Foster's Blog I've covered the strategy aspect pretty well, so I'll focus on the nuanced aspects of engineering, support, and go-to-market.

mechanical engineering: The partnership enables Cisco and Nutanix engineers to leverage both companies' innovation strengths so we can deliver a seamless end-to-end customer experience. The two companies are building deep, product-level integrations that span all of our manufacturing portfolios. We also work together to develop roadmaps that address key customer needs, including unifying management, modernizing infrastructure, and simplifying operations to support virtually any application in hybrid multicloud. The result is a complete, end-to-end hyperconverged solution that is fully integrated and validated, leveraging the best Cisco servers, networks and SaaS operations with Nutanix's cloud-based infrastructure, management, storage and end-user computing capabilities .

Here are two recent technical successes:

  • Through deep integration and co-engineering efforts between the Cisco Intersight and Nutanix Prism teams, we achieved this Cisco Intersight Standalone Mode for Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix available for customers to order. This solution is intended to offer customers maximum flexibility in adapting their HCI solution to their environment. Specifically, customers can choose between the existing, fully integrated network experience with UCS Fabric Interconnects or the new ability to deploy their own network structure. This solution also enables customers to deploy hyperconverged clusters at scale by leveraging the automation capabilities available in the Cisco Intersight and Nutanix Prism Central integration. And we enable new edge use cases by allowing us to deploy 1- or 2-node clusters with lower total cost of ownership and the flexibility of using Cisco or third-party host adapters.
  • Through standardized, open APIs, Cisco and Nutanix's HCI solution is extensible to a variety of use cases that are important to customers, such as security and privacy. One example is our support of the Cohesity Data Cloud for Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix This provides capabilities such as backup and recovery, disaster recovery, cyber vaulting, and automated ransomware recovery at the edge, data centers, and multicloud environments.

Support and Services: A key differentiator of the Cisco and Nutanix partnership is our shared extended support model, designed to share information and deliver the best possible unified experience for customers. We go far beyond the boundaries of traditional shared support agreements. Customers requiring assistance can contact either Cisco or Nutanix support teams, who have extensive authority and act as a joint case management team to escalate any issue as quickly as possible to the expert(s) who can best resolve the issue . We monitor key metrics like mean time to resolution (MTTR) and make continuous improvements to ensure we deliver as promised.
