Does positive voting mean that a Google rating stays at the top for longer?

Back in 2021 we did a case study on upvotes. In this study, we found that upvoting a review does not move the review up in position. In our latest upvote case study, we wanted to see if reviews with upvotes stay at the top of a post longer than reviews without upvotes.

What is an upgrade?

Upvoting is a way for other users to “like” your review, meaning they found it useful or helpful in making a decision about whether or not to use a business. Or some see it as a way to agree with what the reviewer says. It is a very simple step as the user just has to click on the thumbs up feature under the rating. Below a review you can see how many people have “liked” or positively rated this review. In the picture below, this review was positively rated by 16 people.

Do upvotes keep reviews at the top for longer?

Since upvoting didn’t boost reviews, we didn’t think upvotes would affect how long a review stays in the top 10 positions. However, we were wrong! In this study, we tracked reviews across multiple industries (lawn care, jewelry, marketing companies, and handymen) for six months to a year. According to our study, reviews with at least two upvotes stayed in the top ten nearly 100 days longer on average than reviews with zero or one upvote.

Does positive voting mean that a Google rating stays at the top for longer?

TL;DR:

It seems sensible to encourage customers to upvote reviews they found helpful on your listing while leaving you a review themselves.
