Google ranking volatility record, Forbes advisor punishment, Bing generative search experience and more

We’ve had more of the same volatility in Google rankings, but this time we broke the record for the longest period of heated search ranking volatility ever. Google may have imposed some sort of penalty on Forbes Advisor. Bing’s generative search feature is now rolling out. I published the October 2024 Google Webmaster Major Report. Google Search Console has released sticky performance filters. Google Search Console recommendations are now fully rolled out, but are being seen by more people. Danny Sullivan, Google’s Search Liaison, was interviewed again, this time by Aledya Solis. Google warned against using JavaScript-generated product markup. Google talked about noindex and canonical tags again. Google has said that you shouldn’t use a generic “Coming Soon” page for new pages. In Bing search, dates and times for search snippets may be incorrect. Microsoft Advertising has a new ad console experience, as well as new diagnostics and performance snapshots. Bing is testing replacing the ad label with a sponsored label. Google Shopping is testing a new updated interface with extensible improvements. Google Local Service Ads has a new bidding option for target cost per lead. BingBot celebrated its 14th birthday. For some reason, Google didn’t celebrate its 26th birthday. I’m offline today and yesterday for Rosh Hashanah, so this video and post were pre-recorded and scheduled. The Google AI overview news didn’t make it into the video because I recorded it before I was informed of this news. That was the news from the search engine industry this week at the Search Engine Roundtable.
