OpenAI may introduce a paid Pro version of ChatGPT

OpenAI has announced on its Discord server that it will soon launch a paid Pro version of its popular AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT.

According to the announcement, the Pro version of ChatGPT should be faster and more reliable.

The benefits of ChatGPT Professional are said to include the following:

  • No blackout periods
  • Faster responses to prompts
  • At least twice the regular daily message limit

Monetizing ChatGPT with a Pro version is a way for OpenAI to generate revenue to support continued development and maintenance.

However, it is worth noting that this announcement is not an official confirmation from ChatGPT Professional. More details, including pricing, have yet to be announced.

Here is all the information shared by OpenAI on Discord.

OpenAI announces possible monetization of ChatGPT

OpenAI announces that it is considering ways to monetize ChatGPT.

Although no official plans are in the works, OpenAI is considering a version of ChatGPT geared towards professionals.

The announcement reads:

“We’re starting to think about how to monetize ChatGPT (early thoughts, nothing official to share yet). Our goal is to continue to improve and maintain the Service, and monetization is one option we are considering to ensure its long-term viability. We’re interested in chatting with some people for about 15 minutes to get early feedback. If you’re interested in chatting, please fill out this form (it takes about 10 minutes to fill out).”

OpenAI’s announcement references a waiting list where you can sign up for a pilot version of ChatGPT Professional.

If you are interested, you must fill out a form asking questions, e.g. B. how you use ChatGPT and how much you would be willing to pay.

The form states that those selected for the pilot will be notified individually:

“If you are selected, we will contact you to set up a payment process and pilot. Please remember that this is an early experimental program that is subject to change, and we are not currently making paid Pro access available to the general public.”

Although the waiting list is open to everyone, only selected people are accepted.

Will the regular ChatGPT remain free?

Regardless of whether OpenAI goes ahead with ChatGPT Professional, the company doesn’t promise there will always be a free version.

The version of ChatGPT available today is a free research preview.

In other words, we’re all beta testers for what will inevitably become a paid product.

OpenAI founder Sam Altman says he needs to monetize ChatGPT because of the computational costs:

Funding from investors allows OpenAI to defray the costs of running ChatGPT, but those investors expect a return.

With powerful corporate backers like Microsoft, OpenAI is under significant pressure to turn a profit.

With Microsoft planning to invest another $10 billion, the conversation about making money with ChatGPT could soon increase.

We will continue to monitor the ChatGPT Professional discussion on Discord and will update you with new details as they emerge.
