LinkedIn just released its annual report on the most in-demand skills for 2023.

The report is based on data collected from LinkedIn job postings and member activity and provides a unique and valuable perspective on the current and future needs of the job market.

You may hear a lot about an economic downturn, but LinkedIn says that doesn’t make the job market any less competitive.

In the US, there are almost two job openings for every unemployed person.

Globally, however, the talent shortage has reached a 16-year high, with 75% of employers struggling to find candidates with the right combination of technical and soft skills.

One way to stay competitive is to focus on the most in-demand skills, which helps companies ensure they have the talent they need and that workers can keep their skills up to date.

So let’s dive into LinkedIn’s report on the top 10 most in-demand skills for 2023.

The most demanded skills in 2023

The LinkedIn report shows management is the most in-demand skill for 2023.

As companies grow and expand, the need for skilled managers who can oversee teams, projects and operations becomes more important.

In second place communication.

As teams become more geographically dispersed and organizations continue to prioritize teamwork, effective communication across channels and platforms becomes more valuable than ever.

Customer service Skills come third.

Businesses recognize the need to deliver a superior experience to build brand loyalty and drive long-term growth.

guide Skills are fourth on the list.

Whether you lead a small team or an entire organization, the ability to provide guidance, direction, and inspiration is critical to success.

Rounding out the top 5 sale Capabilities.

With the rise of e-commerce and the increasing importance of digital channels, sales skills are as valuable as ever.

LinkedIn’s report includes an additional list of the top 10 most in-demand hard skills.

The most demanded hard skills in 2023

In terms of job performance, hard skills refer to a worker’s level of expertise in performing job-specific tasks.

These skills typically include technical knowledge and specific skills needed to do their job.

For example, software developers may need a deep understanding of cloud computing, SQL, and Java to successfully carry out their tasks.

These are the top 10 most in-demand hard skills in 2023:

  7. JavaScript

In total

Of the 20 most in-demand skills, only two (cloud computing and sales) were named in LinkedIn’s study three years ago.

This shows that the skills required by businesses are constantly evolving, making it crucial for employers and employees to keep up with these changes.

LinkedIn’s report suggests that the 2023 job market will prioritize soft skills like management, communication and leadership, as well as technical skills like data analysis, software development and cloud computing.

To identify the most in-demand skills, LinkedIn analyzed data from employers, recruiters, and job postings over a six-month period (April to October 2022).

Demand for specific skills was measured by looking at the skills of LinkedIn members hired or contacted through InMail and the skills listed in paid job postings.
