VMware Cloud Director Availability Content Pack 2.1

We are pleased to announce that the VMware Cloud Director Availability Content Pack for VMware Aria Operations for Logs 2.1 is now available.

It supports the latest product versions and is aligned with the additional VMware Cloud Director availability protocols added therein.

Interoperability

This new version of the content pack supports:

  • VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7 and later
  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs 8.10 and later

installation

The content pack can be downloaded from the VMware Marketplace or installed directly from the Marketplace menu in VMware Aria Operations for Logs UI > Content packs.

Update

If you are already running an older version of the content pack, you can easily update it to 2.1 by:

  1. Navigate to the VMware Operations for Logs interface > Content packs > Update. You will be notified that an update is available and you can do it with a single click.
  1. Directly importing the new version from the VLCP file downloaded from VMware Marketplace. This results in updating the existing one.

Log collection

There are two ways to collect VMware Cloud Director Availability log information:

  • By setting the syslog configuration in Events and Notifications via the management portal [Configuration steps]
  • By installing VMware Aria Operations for Logs agents on all VMware Cloud Director Availability Appliances [Agent installation steps]

In order to use the dashboards, queries, and alerts included in the content pack, the syslog approach was required in previous versions.

With 2.1 and VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7, both log collection methods can now be chosen without distinction.

Note: Configuring both at the same time will result in duplicate records in VMware Aria Operations for Logs.

Agent group configuration

To apply the agent group configuration to the VMware Cloud Director Availability virtual appliance, please complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the VMware Aria Operations for Logs user interface.
  2. Go to management > agents.
  3. Select the “All Agents” drop-down menu at the top of the window.
  4. Press that Copy template Click the button for the appropriate VMware – VCDA agent group(s).
  1. Add the correct filters to specify which agent should receive the configuration.
  1. Click Update at the top of the page.
  2. Click Save agent group at the end of the page.

focus

Because an audit log was not available in the file system of the VMware Cloud Director Availability Appliances in previous releases, the only way to capture audit information was through syslog. In VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7, there is a new log file that contains information about audit events such as logins, changes to system settings or replications, and more. Full details of the audit events can be found in the documentation.

This is what it looks like in the log browser.
