YouTube is introducing new contract terms for all ad-earning channels that creators must accept in order to remain in the YouTube Partners Program.

All monetized channels have six months to review and accept the new Terms of Service.

The sooner you accept the Terms of Service, the sooner you’ll be able to take advantage of YouTube Shorts monetization, which begins February 1st.

Here’s what you need to know about the new YouTube Partner Program Terms of Service.

Changes to the YouTube Partner Program

Why is YouTube changing the Affiliate Program Terms of Service?

YouTube recently announced several changes that offer creators more ways to join the YouTube Affiliate Program and make money.

To accommodate these changes, YouTube is updating the Affiliate Program Terms of Service, and all creators must accept these new Terms of Service in order to participate in the program.

What are the new YouTube Partner Program Terms?

YouTube introduces a modular structure that allows for more flexibility in creating and earning in different video formats.

All creators in the YouTube Partner Program must accept the Basic Terms, which are the basic terms of the YouTube Partner Program, which includes things like how creators get paid.

Accepting the Basic Terms is a requirement for any creator wishing to participate in the YouTube Partners Program.

In order to earn money, creators must also accept the terms of specific monetization modules.

These include:

  • Watch Page monetization module: This is a great way to monetize ads on your long-form videos and YouTube Premium.
  • The monetization module for short films: Earn money from ads played between Short Films, the Short Film Feed and YouTube Premium.
  • Retail Product Addendum: Includes fan funded features like channel memberships and super chats.

Creators may choose to accept all or some of the Terms.

If you have accepted these specific terms in the past, you do not have to accept them again.

Note that even if you’re already a creator in the YouTube Partners program and making money from ads on your long-form videos, you still need to accept the watch page module to continue earning revenue this way.

What actions do YouTube creators need to take?

All creators in the YouTube Partner Program have six months to review and accept these new Terms of Service.

Unless you agree to at least the basic terms and conditions 10th of Julyyour channel will be removed from the YouTube Partners Program and you will need to requalify and reapply to re-enter.

Creators are advised to accept these new Terms of Service sooner rather than later in order to start earning revenue from YouTube Shorts as soon as possible.

When the YouTube Shorts advertising share begins on February 1st, it will replace the shorts fund. To be eligible, creators must accept the basic terms and short film monetization module by February 1st.

If you agree after February 1st, revenue share for short ads will begin on the date you accept the new terms.

These Terms of Service will be available to creators in the YouTube Partner Program in the coming days. You’ll get a notification when they’re open for you.
