WooCommerce merchants can now sell directly on TikTok

WooCommerce announces a partnership with TikTok, inviting all WooCommerce store owners in the United States to a new program that will allow merchants to market directly to TikTok users through a TikTok store.

The new program, currently in beta status, gives store owners access to an audience of over 150 million, 61% of whom engage in e-commerce activities.

As early adopters, WooCommerce merchants have the opportunity to sell products directly on TikTok and generate sales before the service is officially opened to more merchants.

TikTok is a shopping channel

While TikTok is generally thought of as a place to watch videos, it’s actually heavily consumer-centric.

TikTok statistics provided to Search Engine Journal show that one in four TikTok users use the platform to research products or make a purchase after viewing TikTok.

That’s not surprising considering how influencers with millions of viewers are posting reviews and tips on TikTok.

Many users turn to TikTok for inspiration on fashion, makeup, sports activities, and other retail-related topics.

According to TikTok Insights stats:

  • The TikTok community is 1.5x more willing to buy anything they discover on the platform.
  • 95% of TikTok users agree that finance-related topics are very important to them.
  • 92% of TikTok users said they take action after viewing a TikTok.
  • 81% of TikTok users who made a Back to School purchase said the platform played a role in the purchases/gifts.
  • 44% of Gen X TikTok users say the platform helps them discover new things.
  • 37% of TikTok users immediately bought something they discovered on the platform.
  • 38% of TikTok users have persuaded a friend or family member to buy a product they discovered on the platform.
  • TikTok users spend 14% more when TikTok is part of the retail journey

TikTok Store and WooCommerce

WooCommerce maintains an existing relationship with TikTok in the form of the TikTok advertising platform plugin for WooCommerce, which launched in 2022.

Recently, WooCommerce introduced support for TikTok Smart Performance Campaigns.

TikTok Shop is an extension of this relationship, allowing merchants to bring their entire inventory into TikTok to sell their products directly to consumers on that platform.

TikTok Shops WooCommerce Partnership Facts

There are no minimum or maximum stocks of products that can be added to TikTop stores.

TikTok Shop launched in early November 2022 in the US for alpha testing. TikTok switched its testing from alpha to beta in April 2023 to allow more merchants to participate in the ongoing testing of TikTok Shop in the US.

The TikTok shop platform is well tested. TikTok first launched the TikTok Shop for businesses in Southeast Asia and the UK, and slowly began supporting select US brands late last year.

What Types of Products Are Likely to Sell Well on TikTok?

We asked Steve Deckert, VP of Business Development at WooCommerce, what types of products are likely to do well on TikTok.

Steve replied:

“With #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt having over 60 billion views, you will find that a variety of products are currently being actively discussed on TikTok.

This hashtag should provide some insight into what types of products are commonly discussed.

We anticipate our retailer’s products, including fashion, beauty and skincare products, fitness and wellness items, gaming and tech items, and unique home organization and decorating solutions, to make their way to the TikTok Shop.

There is a great opportunity for different brands to be successful.

Additionally, food and beverage products could also thrive as TikTok continues to shape culinary trends and consumer preferences.”

Steve underscored the importance of this opportunity for WooCommerce merchants:

“People are changing the way they shop and Woo is working to enable merchants to seamlessly advertise and sell on the biggest product discovery channels like TikTok.

This beta will allow Woo merchants to be among the first to test this new sales channel, eliminate steps to purchase and promote their products to the 150+ million monthly active US TikTok users.”

How to sign up for WooCommerce TikTok stores

The TikTok store is currently in beta and available for WooCommerce merchants in the US.

Beta denotes a software development phase in which the product is complete and all functions are fully functional.

Beta users will be the first to test the full-featured service before its general release.

This presents a great opportunity for WooCommerce merchants to generate extraordinary sales.
